‘Porterbrook’ at Didcot in 2001

by admin on Sep.16, 2008, under Photo Archive

Virgin Trains XC 47810 ‘Porterbrook’ leaves Didcot with the 14:18 1M14 Bournemouth to Manchester Picadilly on Saturday 27th October 2001. In the past this working would have been the return Pines Express but Virgin had ‘denamed’ the classic titled trains at the end of September 2001.
Today ’810′ lives on as ‘Captain Sensible’ in the Cotswold fleet, named after the guitarist of the 1970′s punk band The Damned, Sensible also had a number one solo hit in 1982 with a cover of ‘Happy Talk’ from South Pacific.
This image was taken in the early days of digital with a Canon D30, 3.1 megapixels and cost £1800!

‘Repaint’ for ‘Royal Scotsman’

by admin on Jan.31, 2008, under Photo News

With news that the ‘patchwork quilt’ that was 37401 has been made to look even worse with possibly the worst ever ‘repaint’ into EWS maroon with yellow stripe and small stencilled cab side numbers but without logos and the yellow ends untouched, we show a couple of views of ’401. Above the rather shabby former ‘Royal Scotsman’ approaching Shawford with the 6O26 Hinksey to Eastleigh Yard on 27th July 2006 and below at Didcot (with Mainline blue 37/0 37248 ‘Midland Railway Centre’) in happier times with full regalia and snowploughs on 13th April 2002.
